"Getting involved is the only way to stay relevant" (Heinrich Boell)
In conformity with this phrase of the German Nobel Prize winner of Literature, the Heinrich Boell Foundation strives to strengthen existing democratization processes in the region and to foster the development of strategies and demands towards equity and sustainability.

In order to achieve these goals, the Foundation cooperates and supports institutions and Non Governmental Organisations operating in the scope of the Foundation:

>> Ecology and sustainable development
>> Women rights and gender democracy
>> Democracy, citizenship and human rights
>> Diversity of the media and a critical public opinion
>> Economic integration, globalisation and re-regulation
>> Protection of the Commons
>> Ediciones Boell: publications related to the foundations working scope

Regarding Latin American, the Foundation collaborates with universities, research centers, NGO's and other actors of the social arena which are located in Central America, Mexico, Cuba, Brasil, Colombia and the Cono Sur countries. Particularly NGO's benefit from the political dialogue with the Foundation and its support as they are regarded as the mediators between decision makers, the actors of the civil society and grassroot organisations at the national, regional and international level.

Besides enhancing regional processes, the Foundation promotes on the international level a vivid North-South- and East-West-dialogue.
Furthermore, the office in Central America and Mexico offers a scholarship program for Masterstudies in Social Sciences.
